He pumped up his shoes. Guess who. If you figured this out, you most likely grew in the 90s or have great basketball knowledge. The man is Dee Brown. Let's take a quick trip into old school basketball culture, all the way back to the NBA Dunk Contest 1991. What made this dunk contest so memorable was that Dee Brown wasn't near the favorite to win.
The Celtic Rookie had a plan though, not a logical one. He was going up against Shawn Kemp, a basketball player who had made more of a name for himself. How would Dee Brown fare against such a titan? He bent over and "pumped up his shoe", comic style, and proceeded to finish an alley-oop reverse jam.
Dunk contest antics and drama are nothing new as contestants even then tried to impress the judges and crowd with showy displays, which is as important as the dunk itself. In 90s fashion the "The Pump" became a thing and started to trend among young basketball fans. Dee Browns promotional dunk act cemented himself and the Omni Pump in basketball history. The historic kicks are making a comeback to celebrate it's 30th anniversary.
Let's take a closer look at the Omni Pump. The standout object is "The Pump," which is orange, standing out against the dominantly black sneakers. In shape, texture, and somewhat color "The Pump" resembles a basketball. Below the orange ball, there is signature Reebok branding.
The branding continues on the laterals with an orange "The Pump" beneath. White coloring flows throughout the show on the outsoles, midsoles, Reebok branding and a wavelike design on the lateral. The Omni Pump Zone 2 will get a release on May 22nd for $140 via Reebok and select partners.
