Nike SB has long been known for their innovative and cutting-edge designs when it comes to skateboarding shoes. The latest addition to their lineup, the Nike SB Vertebrae, is no exception. This shoe is specifically designed for vert skaters, with features that cater to the unique demands of skating in a vertical ramp setting. 2030 is a big year for many companies. Nike's Zoom Type is another step in reaching their zero carbon emission goal in ten years. They have committed to the Paris Act of 2015 as so many of the industry leading companies. Nike's effort to reach that goal is notable with the amount of recycled themed kicks we've been getting in the last two years.
The Space Hippie line of sneakers has been Nike's premiere recycle designed shoe, and according to them the one that has the least carbon foot print in their catalogue of 56 years of sneakers. It's hard to design sneakers which help the environment while staying true to branding and appealing to paying customers but Nike accomplished that with their Space Hippie collection which really set the stage for their future recycled projects.
Of course, the Nike Vapormax Flyknit has joined it as another successful recycled shoe project. This is helping Nike reach it's 2030 goal, along with other projects like working to divert 99 percent of all footwear waste from their manufacturing process from landfills. In five year's they plan to use 100 percent reusable energy to power their facilities. Also, they're actively creating yarns for their Flyknit shoes' uppers and jerseys by recycling 1 billion plastic bottles from landfills. As we close 2020, Nike is getting close to Move To Zero goal with 10 years to go.
The company is putting more effect in making their shoes more earth friendly, greening other shoe lines like the Air Max 95 and Blazer Mid. Now we have the Nike Zoom Type "Wool," using recycled material on the Nike Zoom silhouette. What makes this new Zoom Type stand out is the amount of recycled material going into it.
The Air Max 95 and Blazer Mid models have recycled material in part but the Nike Zoom Type's upper is mostly reused wool. Perforations are scattered around the front of the shoes, where the lightest part of the shoe is, light grey, and proceeds to move to a darker grey towards the back heel.
There's a gradient pattern running through the entire shoe with white wooly bits adding character to the theme. The laces and eye stays are white with the swoosh having a white textured effect from the wool.
The Nike Zoom Type "Wool" will be arriving in a few months.
