It's not surprising that we're seeing Nike making use of the Lakers' brand. The Lebron 8 is getting a paintjob with the iconic purple and yellow colors. It's another championship after 10 years, with new players and management, which makes Lebron's shoes iconic in itself. The celebratory 2020 championship kicks.
The last super star player to don the purple and yellow was Kobe, the Laker legend and soon to be hall of famer next year. He sold "shipments" of yellow and purple shoes during his 20 years in Lakers uniform, much more than any of his team mates.
There were some rumors in May about the shoes dropping sometime before the end of 2020. A time when basketball was cancelled for a period of quarantining and before Laker's had a grand finals chance at the championship. Thankfully, basketball wasn't cancelled in 2020 and we got to see some on court action in which the Lakers defeated the Heats in the NBA Finals.
With the kind of year we had, whether or not you're a Lakers' fan, this was a welcomed return to normalcy.
Now, the Lebron 8 is one of the more popular of the seventeen models, and with the Lakers' color treatment it should get some love from the fans.
When we think about Lebron's previous teams, Cleveland and Miami, they didn't have the icon status of colors for Nike to work with. In fact, Lebron shoes were selling based on his name alone. Now with a global and recognized brand as the Lakers, we will probably see more of the purple and yellow colors in the coming line up and renditions of Lebron shoe models.
Let's get into the Lebron 8 Retro "Lakers." We have a mixture of suede, and synthetic primarily on the upper colored "Court Purple." What about the complementary yellow? Well university gold colors the tongue along with a big Nike swoosh on the laterals. The air max units are clearly seen with the same color, complimenting the purple under soles.
