Nike recently treated sneaker fans to the Air Raid Jungle Gym from 1993 (which we covered here at Sneakerjawns), and now we're getting the 2014 remake. The Air Raid brand has been building some steam this year with the Air Raid Low, Air Raid Jungle Gym, and Air Raid OG, and notably the Nike Air Max 1 featuring in the Live Together Play Together Pack with a Jungle Gym colorway. On top of that, the 90s silhouette is getting releases at the beginning of the year with the Air Raid 2014 remake and the Air Raid Ray Guns. The old silhouette is getting some attention from their makers, that is Nike, to give more variations to the classic style. The Nike Air Raid has much lore to it, designed by Tinker Hatfield as an outdoor counterpart to the Air Jordans, featured in commercials with Spike Lee, hence the Live Together Play Together ethos. The 2014 Black and White Air Raid is not as colorful as the jungle gym, but style doesn't always come with flare. Let's ...
But plenty is going on in the sneaker game off-court this all-star weekend with a Chicago themed Jordan 3s heating things up, and many other huge drops in the lineup. But PG has some game of his own with his ongoing collaboration with Gatorade. He may not be an all-star this year, but his sneaker game is on point.
We're getting two colorways, with one being inspired by his two favorite Gatorade flavors. His kicks have some flavorful colors, that he will most likely be grooving with them on-court when the regular season continues. No worries though, he won't be reprimanded for any "distasteful" kicks. The NBA in 2018 softened their laws on appropriate sneakers and jerseys, affording players the ability to express themselves. Such players like PG can artfully say how much he loves Gatorade with shoes that look like the explosion of a multi-colored paint bomb.
Despite the fun look and freaky colorways, true to its PG 4 origins, the Gatorade x Nike PG 4 excels in the two-game category, and we know about Paul George's ability in offense and defense. He's a high percentage shooter and a hustler on D.
Knowing his strengths, Paul developed his kicks alongside designer Tony Hardman to increase his control and ability to make quick decisions.
The Gatorade x Nike PG 4 features Nike's full-length air unit in the sole, synthetic upper clothed with a zippered semi-transparent dual mesh. Gatorade has its branding on the tongues. A Lime green and orange pair (A mixture of Paul's favorite Gatorade colors) and blue pair are the available colorways. But there are rumors of a black and white one heading our way within a month.
In an attempt to give to the public what they give to their athletes, Gatorade will be featuring their GX Sweat Patch on every PG Gatorade GX sneaker. The sweat patch will analyze players' sweat and prescribe appropriate nutrition for better performance.
The Gatorade x Nike PG will be launching just a day before All-Star weekend, February 13th, up for grabs at Nike.com and select shops with a retail price of $120 USD.
